That was then - over 100 days ago when we launched The 150 Day Adventure. How different it all looks today with the month of June already a third of the way through, having set itself a faster pace than usual – as well as forgetting that mid-summer should surely mean a few extra degrees on the temperature gauge.
Maybe I can be forgiven for thinking that I still have plenty of time. Plenty of time to decide what and how we are going to cook en route; plenty of time to lose an extra inch or two around my legs so that my cycling shorts feel like cycling shorts rather than the student doctor’s tourniquet as he tries to extract blood from a vein that doesn’t exist; plenty of time to be able to beat that most dreaded of hills in one hit – the first hill at the very start of our 600 mile cycle ride; plenty of time to actually spend some time in the saddle before we embark on this hare-brained adventure; plenty of time to research a little about wild camping do’s and don’ts in the five countries that we will be cycling through along our way.
And of course, plenty of time to get out there and drum up some support for the amazing cause that we are raising money for – Cheltenham YMCA. Providing safe and secure accommodation for some of the youngest and most vulnerable people in our society. Homelessness is devastating at any age, but particularly so for a young person trying to remain in education, or find their first job. At Cheltenham YMCA the skilled support team works closely with each resident, setting goals and providing the necessary support to ensure a smooth transition into independent living.
Will you help Cheltenham YMCA bring about lasting, positive change in a young person’s life? Please sponsor us to ensure that all young people receive the help they need, at a time when they need it most and all the planning, researching, training and hills accomplished will have been worthwhile. Thank you.
